The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran-Manila held a scientific gathering in its office auditorium on June 5 in commemoration of the passing of Imam Khomeini, the founder of Islamic Republic of Iran.
Organized by the embassy’s Cultural Section, the program carried the theme, “Imam Khomeini and the Revival of Religious Thoughts in the Third Millennium.”
In a statement sent to The Manila Times, Iran’s Cultural Section expressed, “After reviewing the life and career of Imam Khomeini, we found some facts that indicate his multidimensional character. Religious people branded him as a ‘Grand Ayatollah.’ In the eyes of politicians he was a very dynamic leader, and intellectuals saw him as intelligent and broad-minded.
“Imam Khomeini is undoubtedly considered as one of the prominent charismatic leaders who has changed the social, political as well as cultural maps of the Middle East.
“Imam Khomeini’s spiritual dimension has a great role in the revival of religious thoughts in the contemporary era. Even though his movement affected various parts of the world, he used to insist that he was just a simple servant of the people. That is why his necrological service was considered one of the biggest in the known history.”
Invited to the event were intellectuals and educators who were eager to learn about Iran’s historical and international figure who passed away on June 3, 1989 at the age of 86.
