JORDAN whipped Hong Kong, 80-54, to notch its first win in Group E while Iran remains unbeaten in Group F after trouncing Bahrain, 75-56, on Tuesday in the 27th FIBA-Asia Men’s Basketball Championship at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Mohammad Hadrab notched 21, Mahmoud Abdeen13 while Wesam Al-Sous and Mohammad Shaher Hussain finished with eight points apiece leading the Jordanians to their first win against three losses.
In the other game, the Iran held Bahrain’s scoring ability to mere six points, 23-6, in the first period en route to securing its fourth straight win in Group F.
Sammad Nikkah Bahrami led the Iranians with 17 points supported by Hamed Afagh and Asghar Kardoust who scored 15 and 12 respectively.
Hussain Altawash paced Bahrain with 15 points backed by Mohamed Alderazi who notched 14.
The loss of Hongkong, its fourth straight in the tourney, dampened its hope of making it into the quarterfinals, which is expected to be dominated by Qatar (3-0), Chinese-Taipei (3-0), Japan (1-2) and host Philippines (2-1).
The Philippine Team thumped Japan, 90-71, on Monday to clinch its second win at the start of the second round elimination.
