South Gas Club Sports of Iraq defeated Altain Bars of Mongolia, 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15, to enter the quarterfinals of 2014 Asian Men’s Volleyball Club Championship on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
With Iraq’s win, the Philippines that beat the Mongolians, (25-13, 25-23, 25-16), in the opening day of the 16-nation competition, also advanced to the quarterfinals although their opponent is yet to be determined.
“We’re now in the process of correcting the mistakes we had in our past two games,” Vicente said. “I expect the boys to come out fresh, strong and in fighting form come the quarterfinals.”
Amaniev Metodi finished with 19 kills and seven aces for a total of 26 points for Iraq.
Hussein Gani Mustafa and Nasser Jameel Aseel delivered a combined 22 points built on 18 kills.
Erdenebat Saikhanbataatar registered all of his 15 points on kills for the Mongolians, who were relegated to the battle for the 9th to 16th place.
