ILAGAN CITY: Gov. Faustino Dy 3rd has pushed through with his scheduled trip to China for the 10th Asean-China Expo (Caexpo) together with his team of local officials and representatives from the business sector.
The Isabela delegation to China has pushed through despite a cancellation of Beijing’s invitation to President Benigno Aquino 3rd to join the affair.
The more than 100-member delegation composed of local officials and from the business sector left the country on Tuesday morning for a four-day international trade fair which will start today at Nanning China.
”At first we were having second thoughts of pushing through with the trip after Beijing withdrew its invitation on the President,” said the Isabela officials who were personally invited by Chinese authorities to join the trade fair in China.
Beijing has advised Philippine embassy officials to postpone the President’s trip at a “more conducive time” just as when the President was all set to attend the event representing the Philippines, which has been billed as the “country of honor” at the Asean Caexpo.
An Isabela official said what Beijing has done to our President is “very unfortunate.”
”But we don’t have anything to do with the political and boundary issues confronting our government and China. We will be going there merely for economic purposes,” said a member of the Isabela delegation who asked not to be identified.
He said that the event is an added venue for Isabela to invite investors as well as to promote its tourism potentials.
