The Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division has disqualified Mayor Benedict Cal-deron of Roxas, Isabela who allegedly bought votes in the May mid-term elections.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said that the affidavits of witnesses together with video clippings have led to disqualify Calderon.
“Affidavits of witnesses, together with video clippings of vote buying activities lead to no other conclusion than that vote-buying indeed took place,” Jimenez said.
The disqualification case of Calderon came a few weeks after Comelec has disqualified Mayor Alfredo Germar of Norzagaray, Bulacan and Councilor Rogelio Santos both from Liberal Party also for alleged vote-buying in the May 13 polls.
Calderon is a member of the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition.
