GAZA: Israel announced on Wednesday night that it decided to close the crossing points with the Gaza Strip after rocket attacks on southern Israel, Palestinian officials said.
Ra’ed Fattouh, the Palestinian liaison officer who coordinates the entrance of goods into the Gaza Strip, said in a statement that the Israeli side officially informed him that all crossings are closed until further notice.
The closure of all crossing points between the coastal enclave and Israel followed fresh rocket attacks. Islamic Jihad militants fired on Wednesday afternoon more than 60 rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
The group said that the rocket attacks were in revenge for the killing of its three members in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Islamic Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, held Israel responsible for the escalation of violence.
Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman in Gaza said that Hamas seriously considers that Israel should be fully responsible for the escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip. PNA
