LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: In promoting organic agriculture which is the emerging trend for a healthy lifestyle, Itogon officials crafted a measure to earmark an amount for organic agriculture programs, projects and activities of the town. Itogon Ordinance No. 68 series 2015 provides that at least 5.0 percent from the 20 percent development fund will be earmarked for organic agriculture. The measure reinforces at the local level Republic Act 10068 or the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010. It will also form part of the local development plan, local development investment plan and annual investment plan. To be prioritized will be the communal irrigation system, water supply system to organic farm areas, organic farming facilities, equipment and materials, organic farming practitioners support and subsidy assistance, development of farm-to-market access road/trail, post-harvest equipment/facilities, and multi-purpose drying pavement.
