‘Jail all pork players’

Multi-sectoral groups, including former foes, will join forces this week to launch massive marches and rallies to amplify their demand that all officials, including allies of President Benigno Aquino 3rd involved in the pork barrel scam, be prosecuted and punished.

The groups are also calling for the resignation of Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala and Joel Villanueva, chief of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), who were implicated in the pork barrel anomaly by businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles.

As a preview of the pork rallies to come, factory workers and members of urban poor groups Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP) and Kongreso ng Pagkakaisa ng Maralita ng Lungsod (KPML) held simultaneous pickets in various areas in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces on Sunday as part of build-up activities for the nationwide anti-pork assemblies on June 12, Philippine Independence Day.

Rallies were held at the Mabuhay (Welcome) Rotunda in Quezon City, Monumento Shrine in Caloocan City, Barangay Concepcion in Marikina City and Bicutan Interchange in Taguig City. Similar protests were also held in the provinces of Laguna, Cavite and Bulacan and the cities of Cebu and Bacolod.

The BMP noted that through these simultaneous protests, the group is launching “an independent class movement of Filipino workers for total cleansing of the rotting elitist bureaucracy and for meaningful reforms in appropriating the national budget.”

BMP National President Leody de Guzman said President Aquino should lead efforts to prosecute all personalities linked to the pork barrel scam, even members of his Cabinet.

“Ikulong at parusahan lahat ng mga korap! Hindi lang sina Pogi, Sexy and Tanda [Jail and punish all corrupt officials, not just Pogi, Sexy and Tanda],” he added, referring to opposition senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile.

“We deserve a thorough cleansing of the bureaucracy, not shameless and shallow politicking by the yellow Liberal administration party,” de Guzman said.

Onl Revilla, Estrada and Enrile have been formally charged for reportedly receiving huge kickbacks from their priority development assistance fund (PDAF) or pork barrel.

“The Napoles affidavit, however crooked her intentions may be with its disclosure, provides an opportunity for an impartial investigation of the alleged P10-billion pork barrel scam. If [Aquino] wants to rescue what is left of his already discredited tuwid na daan, he must relentlessly pursue and investigate all politicians implicated in this grand thievery of the nation’s coffers, including Budget Secretary Butch Abad, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, Tesda Director Joel Villanueva and Senate President Franklin Drilon,” de Guzman said.

Tuwid na daan (straight path) is the anti-corruption battlecry of the Aquino administration.

Gie Relova, secretary-general of the BMP National Capital Region-Rizal said while the poor “pay their taxes in the form of blood, sweat and tears,” politicians enjoy their largesse by conspiring with “mercenaries” like Napoles.

“We have every right to pursue justice against corruption in government. Workers are willing to march side by side with various sectors and classes in Philippine society, who are now rising against the pork barrel system and elite rule. The people’s movement against pork has broadened even more since the middle class-led August 26 Million People March last year. Now, our present task is to deepen it, by going to the workers and the poor, to factories and urban poor communities, to involve and inspire the millions of unorganized masses in the struggle for meaningful reforms and total cleansing of government. Once enlightened, the workers and the poor would readily lend its numbers to the people’s crusade against pork barrel and corruption, provided that its trajectory is not only against personalities of the elitist opposition,” Relova added.

Foes unite
For the first time since their historic split more than 20 years ago, leftist organizations will unite with various groups on June 12 to call for more drastic actions against all those involved in the pork barrel scam.

“Despite the filing of plunder charges before the Sandiganbayan regarding the pork barrel scam, various groups are determined to push through with protestations on June 12 as the legal actions still have not included allies of the President [Benigno Aquino 3rd],” Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) leader Renato Reyes said in a text message to reporters.

Reyes announced that Bayan will join the #abolishpork movement at Liwasang Bonifacio on Thursday at 3 p.m. before holding a torch march to Mendiola. Those who belong to the Scrap Pork Network, including the group Sanlakas, will merge with the other contingents.

Bayan belongs to a faction of the Left known as “reaffirmists” or RA while Sanlakas is with the “rejectionists” or RJ movement.

Sanlakas leader and militant lawyer Argee Guevarra said he was elated by the renewed alliance of the opposing groups, describing it as a “milestone” in achieving real unity in the pursuit of a common goal.

“It is really going to be a momentous event to march along our former comrades. This is an unprecedented feat because in the past, we may have shared the same views on a lot of issues but there was no actual merger such as what’s happening now,” Guevarra told The Manila Times.

In 1992, the leftist organization split into RA and RJ factions over irreconcilable differences on how Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Ma. Sison was running the revolutionary movement.

The RJs eventually worked with the government and some of its leaders, such as Akbayan’s Ronald Llamas and Etta Rosales, were appointed as political adviser to Aquino and human rights commission chairman, respectively.

According to Reyes, other groups that have signed in for the June 12 rally for accountability include the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, Concerned Citizens Movement, Whistleblowers Association, Youth ACT Now, Artista Kontra Korapsyon, Babae Laban sa Katiwalian, the UP Faculty vs Pork as well as religious leaders Mary John Mananzan and retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz.

‘Pork’ king
The Bayan leader said Aquino is the real “pork barrel king” who is taking part in covering up for his men.

“All those involved in the scam, including allies of the President should be made accountable. The Pork Barrel King himself [Aquino] should be held accountable for the DAP [Disbursement Acceleration Program] and for the cover-up of the PDAF [priority development assistance fund]scam involving his allies,” Reyes noted.

He and Guevarra agreed that all people involved in the scam must be made to answer for their crimes, regardless of political affiliation.

The #abolishpork group has called for the resignation of Abad, Alcala and Villanueva.

“President Aquino had long known of the involvement of his allies in the pork barrel scam. The President himself admitted that he had seen two lists of pork beneficiaries, one list even given to him by the family of [Janet Lim-] Napoles. The Department of Justice and the National Bureau of Investigation had long known of the involvement in the scam of Aquino’s allies,” said Mary John Mananzan during the group’s recent news conference.

“Despite knowing the involvement of his allies, Aquino chose to focus government efforts on perceived foes of the administration. Aquino has in fact led the cover-up of the scam by undermining the recent revelations that his allies, including his Cabinet officials, were allegedly involved in the scam,” she added.

The BMP said they will continue to hold activities after the June 12 protest march to explain the issue of pork barrel, political dynasty and elite rule at the grassroots.

“Reforms must be enacted to prevent widespread corruption. As long as the bureaucracy operates in secret, as long as ordinary civilians are only called for in the political arena as mere voters of elite candidates and have no direct participation in government’s budgetary process, scheming thieves like Napoles and crafty corrupt politicians will find ways to use state funds for personal enrichment,” it warned.

Unfazed
But Malacanang is not alarmed by the growing public discontent over the prok barrel scam.

Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. also on Sunday welcomed the June 12 rally, saying it is part of the dynamics of democracy.

He added that the Philippine National Police will secure rallyists and keep the peace.

Coloma said he respects the right of the people to peaceably assemble and air their grievances even if such protest actions are held on Independence Day.

Theme of this year’s Independence Day celebration is “Following in the Footsteps of Great Filipinos Toward Permanent and Widespread Change.”

Still there is hope . There is a big international group of pinoys all around the world who are now busy organizing. They will pursue a movement to put once and for all the culture of corruption and political dynasties in the country. Please support them and actively participate in all the mass actions and petitions. The website is now being develope and will be online soon. Let’s unite once and for all this time….

  2. Im a foreigner & i would love also to attend this rally but i cant as if im spotted by police being a foreigner in a rally i would be forced to leave the philippines & this is my home now.
Anyway one of the first things that should also be done is get rid of this bank secrecy law. They use that to hide their ill gotten monies. They used a smokescreen to confuse everyone & they said if we get rid of it people will lose faith in the philippine banks. What a load of tosh we dont have a bank secrecy law in the uk & we havent lost faith in our banks, nor the rest of europe nor the usa. They all want to look after themselves because if the bank secrecy law was so important for the integrity of the banks why doesnt it apply to my peso account. Why do the government think its fine to look into my bank account & that wont affect the integrity of the banks but if they look into a dollar bank account it will affect the integrity of the banks. It shows they are always protecting the interests of the thieves & of people with any ill gotten monies. You see its much harder to get a bank account in a ficticious name than it is in your own name. & yes all implicated in this or any other scam should be thoroughly investigated & if enough evidence is found then prosecute them & if found guilty jail them for life with not possibility of parole for any reason. Like people saying jpe should go to jail because he is 90, so what being 90 didnt stop him stealing millions of pesos, treat him how he treats the people of this country.
I saw where these politicians will be kept during their trial & until found innocent or guilty. Why are they being given such special treatment. Why, i dont care if another prisoner kills them, they wouldnt care about me or you or anyone you love, they were quick enough to do the crime make them suffer from day one.

He approved of the PDAF and DAP supposedly as a “legitimate” but actually a spurious means of transferring people’s funds from our treasury to their pockets. He knew fully well those monies will not go towards public service. We know, as admitted by some senators, that Pnoy bribed them with at least P50M each to convict Corona. What was Corona’s biggest fault? Awarding hacienda Luisita to its rightful owners, first, the Filipino people and the farmers who have beed duped for so many years of their right to the share of the land.

Saan
    naman natin sila ikukulong gayon.

Kulang and Munti sa dami nila.
kakasama sama. Menos pa sa ating Gobyerno at tax payers. Kaya ito ang
dapat gawin. Tiyak natin pag uusapan tayo ng buong mundo. Talo pa ang balita
sa nangyayari sa Ukraine dahil gayon sa buong mundo wala pang naka gawa nito
pati na sa nangyayari sa Thailand gayon.

With all the new technology now, walang maka kapasok dito.
Doon sila matututong bumungkal ng lupa upang sila maka kain. Pera ng
bayan ang sinimut nila so this is what we call payback at kunin lahat sa banco
As the saying goes maligaya kayong lahat

niya. Well, well well.
Nawalang saysay
lahat ang gusto ng taong bayan. So timing lahat na ito.

As the saying goes ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES!!!!!

I am not a lawyer. But reading newspapers everyday regarding the allegations against the senators, et al, and their very stiff denials, is frustrating. Perhaps the strategy or move helps. I doubt though because a speech requires proof. And, so far, I have not seen any proof presented for a presiding judge to decide acquittal. Did anybody see any proof contrary to the allegations? I doubt it. The issue is PLUNDER. And here is a simple prescription for acquittal. Again, I am not a lawyer. Prescription: If the APA (Alleged Plundered Amount) was PH51M, to convince the judge that you deserve acquittal is to exhibit GENUINE RECEIPTS before him carrying the total aggregate of the APA, Again, genuine not falsified. If they suspect can do that, perhaps lawyer is not necessary in gaining acquittal. Yet, you saved a lot of money. Talk is cheap until you talk to a lawyer. As President Clinton said, “Simple arithmetic my friend.” I doubt anybody of the suspects could do the simple arithmetic anyway. So, hey, suspects go to jail. Have a good day.

  6. Of course, all pork barrel thieves should be jailed. Twenty senators and over one hundred congressmen had been implicated in the pork barrel scam, yet only 3 senators had been charged. By the Justice Department’s failure to charge the other members of Congress implicated in the scam, it is clear BS Aquino is shielding his corrupt Congress allies from prosecution. This is a shameful miscarriage of justice.

  7. Fr. Socrates Villegas of the CBCP, I think you are out of your mind. If we are not going to condemn those implicated with the PDAF scandals then, who are we going to condemn? No wonder the Catholic Church is losing thousands of followers every year because people are so disappointed with priest like you. You know Fr. Socrates Villegas, why don’t you take care of your own house first before you get involved with the affairs of the government? How about those hundred of pedophiles in the Catholic Church, did you say something about them? Oops I forgot, you don’t want to condemn them either.

  9. I have been campaigning for this to happen and even support a military take over because our justice system is so slow and corrupted too.I hope this will be a wake up call for Supreme Court to be more proactive in solving and giving immediate action to this national pathology in an epidemic proportion. The wrath of our people is at hand, it is just a matter finding honest, patriotic and competent Generals to take over without compromising our freedoms .Egypt imprisoned thousands of the Muslim Brotherhood leaders and followers and so with Thailand Jailing their Prime Ministers and other politicians. We too can do the same. We need some government cleansing and immediate trials to free the names of those who are not guilty. We need to replace all these incompetent, and greedy vultures with smart and professional technocrats who will have a vision and a blueprint for the Philippines to move forward and compete with our very progressive neighbors. Mabuhay”””

  10. There should be an on-going nationwide campaign for all Netizens, from now on, to support the anti-graft movement; this is our chance to ‘notify’ the corrupt government officials that never again will there be such stealing of the peoples’ money. Talks at this early stage of the investigations about Binay ‘savinjg’ those accused, and possibly to be convicted, once he becomes the next president. Politicians with such intent should be voted out, by all means. Let’s save our country by eliminating all these unscrupulous and corrupt politicians.

  11. LET ME REMIND PNOY WHAT A US PASTOR SAID ” A LEADER, EVEN HOW HONEST, IF HE TOLERATES THE EVILS OF HIS OFFICIAL FAMILY IS MORE GUILTY OF EVIL DOINGS”.
POLITICIANS CAN FOOL ALL THE PEOPLE SOMETIMES BUT NOT ALL THE PEOPLE AT THE SAME TIME. THAT WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF POWER, THE ONES CLOSES TO YOU ( WATCH OUT HAYOP TEN ) WILL BE THE ONES WHO THROW THE FIRST STONES ON YOU AND WILL BE THE FIRST ALSO TO BETRAY YOU.
PNOY, BEFORE YOUR TIME IS UP, USE YOUR POWER TO BAN DYNASTIES AS THIS IS THE FATHER OF ALL GRAFT AND CORRUPTION AND THEIR CHILDREN ARE RESULTS TO NEPOTISM IN THE GOVERNMENT WHERE THEIR ” KAMAG-ABAD” GETS THE MOST JUICES POSITION IN YOUR GOVERNMENT, DI BA PNOY?
ALSO, WHILE YOU STILL HAVE TIME DECLARE AS URGENT THE FOI BILL. THIS BILL, IF MADE INTO LAW, WILL BE THE WATCHDOG OF THE PEOPLE, SPECIALLY THE FOURTH ESTATE, TO FULLFILL YOUR MANTRA OF DAAN MATUWID.
MARAMI PNOY ANG NANINIWALA NA HONEST KA PNOY PERO MARAMI RIN SA AMIN ANG NANINIWALA NA DISHONEST ANG MARAMI SA IYONG OFFICIAL FAMILY AT IYONG AMINISTRATION. DI BA MGA KATOTO ?

  12. Good luck Kabayans on the 12 June 2014. May the govt hear and grant your plea. These guilty people maybe jailed, then what, pay for their bail out? Then, what happened to “aling maliit’s” case? It makes us sick, sick sick!

  13. Sana hindi mabali wala and ikinikilos ninyo.

Specially after the DAP is decided unconstitutional.
