James Wright: New kid on the block

James Wright is the local recording scene’s new kid on the block, whose looks could have easily earned him a spot in the popular ‘90s boy band of Donnie Wahlberg and company.

A Filipino-Australian, the dark haired 18-year-old Adonis can make girls swoon with his voice just like any boy band member, and yet his singing style is still uniquely his own.

Why so?

The Anak Ko Yan reality star search finalist—who was born in Sydney and raised in Hong Kong—sings original Filipino Vehnee Saturno compositions with a heavy twang, and still the whole thing works!

“We didn’t think of working on my accent, I guess because singing this way will make my music more memorable,” he ventured to explain to The Manila Times.

True enough, among dozens of possible theme songs to choose from, it was James’ “Sana’y Ikaw” Saturno original that was chosen for the recently concluded prime time series Carmella, starring top celebrity Marian Rivera.

“I was so surprised when I learned about it,” enthused the humble kid.

James’ hopes are high that his self-titled debut album will continue to do well on the charts and on the shelves of major record stores. With five all-OPM songs in the playlist, the album is a gratifying introduction to a fresh-faced neophyte in the Philippine music industry. With its polished production and romance-driven compositions, the new kid on the block will surely make a mark in the mainstream.

Besides “Sana’y Ikaw,” the CD also carries more sweet serenades in “Ako’y Sa ‘Yo,” “Babe,” “Ikaw ‘Yon,” and “Kung Hindi Ikaw.”

James self-titled album is also available on digital format worldwide via iTunes and Amazon.
