Philippine merchandise imports dropped 14.2 percent in January from a year earlier, with eight out of 10 major commodities accounting for the fall, the latest government data shows.

Imports in January fell to $5.108 billion from $5.955 billion in the corresponding month of 2014, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Wednesday.
