From supporting characters to lead roles, Janella Salvador has proven she developed the acting skills to become the teen star she is today.
Born to singer and thespian Jenine Desiderio and singer-songwriter Juan Miguel Salvador, she initially dreamt of honing her voice to follow their footsteps, but as she entered show business realized that acting is truly her passion.
Her most pivotal role in her young and thriving career was as Richard Yap’s daughter Nikki Grace in ABS-CBN’s Be Careful With My Heart, which produced her first acting recognition from the 27th PMPC Star Awards for Television as Best New Female TV Personality. From there, she earned the trust of her mother studio and immediately bagged the lead role of Sophie Cepeda in the daytime teen teleserye Oh My G!.
As her star rose, endorsement deals began coming her way, and yet another notable recognition as one of the German Moreno Youth Achievement awardees from the FAMAS Awards for being a positive influence among the youth.
As for movies, Salvador had her film debut in Regal Entertainment’s Haunted Mansion in 2015’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
As her latest teleserye Born For You with onscreen partner Elmo Magalona came to end in September, she had no time for a break, going straight to the set of Regal Film’s Mano Po 7 starring her first teleserye dad Richard Yap.
With all her achievements as an 18-year old celebrity, Salvador is every humble and credits her mom for being her inspiration and guide.
“It’s no secret how close my mom and I are. She’s literally been there for me all my life and I can’t deny the fact that she plays a big role in who I’ve become today,” the doting daughter told The Manila Times at yet another milestone in her life on October 6.
A picture of young sophistication, Salvador was launched as one of the powerhouse Olay Ambassadors for its 10th anniversary, with no less than Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and top TV executive and award-winning actress Charo Santos-Concio completing the impressive roster.
Asked how she felt to be lined up with such accomplished women, Salvador replied, “First of all I was surprised and very flattered when I found out that I was going to be part of a campaign with them. They’re such big names,” she exclaimed. “I mean it’s Pia Wurtzbach and Ms. Charo Santos, and I’m just Janella… I really am so honored to be included here,” she said.
“At first I was star-stuck when I first worked with them in the commercial,” she related. “To be with the both of them was just surreal, but they were very nice. They made the shoot go very smoothly and easy for me—I didn’t feel intimated or pressured.”
Meanwhile, in a quick interview with Charo Santos-Concio, she spoke of how energized she is to work with young talents, especially like Salvador.
“I admire this young lady who is very focused, hardworking and a true professional,” said the showbiz pillar.
In the spotlight
Meanwhile, Salvador also shared with The Manila Times that she knows that with her celebrity comes responsibility. For this reason, she always strives to be the best possible version of herself, inside and out.
For example, while she admits that the hectic pace of being in the spotlight almost leaves her no time to take care of herself, she still makes skincare a priority, thus her enthusiasm to be an Olay ambassador.
“If you take care of your skin, you’ll feel beautiful and confident, and it all starts from there,” she explained.
