Japanese denim brand looks to PH for new designer

Japanese denim brand Bobson has launched a search to find the next big thing in fashion who can recreate, redesign and redefine its concept of “Pure Japanese Denim” in the Philippines. Held in partnership with the bi-annual Manila Fashion Festival, the jeans label is calling on aspiring designers from 16- to 35-years-old to join the competition.

Applicants should have finished a short course in fashion, or currently enrolled in or a graduate of any fashion school in the Philippines.

As for designer requirements, they must submit three proposed sketches of their innovative and original designs that use denim as the prominent fabric to website, www.bobsonjapan.com. Deadline of submission of entries is on August 8.

The chosen finalists will undergo more rigorous challenges and trainings, a factory tour, design consultations, and model fittings to improve their designs, and eventually produce the garments to win a slot to exhibit at the Manila Fashion Festival—the popular and highly anticipated bi-annual fashion event that showcases Filipino creative talent.

By October 20, four finalists will be awarded cash and gift certificate prizes, with one finalist claiming the grand prize. A slot in Manila Fashion Festival will be given to the grand winner, where more than two thousand attendees, including esteemed media partners, are expected to witness the winning designers debut.

The winning pieces that successfully #RedefineDenim will also have their pieces sold online or in Bobson stores.
