TV5 princess talks about being happy over her career, and shying away from love
It was back in September when quite an unusual scene took place at an everyday TV network press conference. Brian Poe Llamanzarez—son of Senator Grace Poe who at the time was still uncertain to run for president—surprised the beautiful Jasmine Curtis Smith with a bouquet of roses, declaring he had long admired her and wanted to meet her.
Jasmine, who had just been launched as the star of the ongoing TV5 prime time series My Fair Lady, was speechless over the surprise, but as “public” Brian had been with his intentions, the 21-year-old celebrity had since been mum about the whole scene.
In a quick one-on-one with The Manila Times at her latest Smart Communications promo launch, Jasmine openly talked about what happened after that fateful day.
“Brian’s a great guy. He’s very sincere naman and super nice but it wasn’t a matter of whether or not he was nice or too forward or anything like that. [In terms of moving forward], it was more of me because back then, I was like, I don’t think right now I can breathe with all the work that I have,” she confessed.
“Yes we were talking a lot afterwards, kasi even after that press con we were hitting it off. We had so many similarities,” she continued. “We texted and talked more in the days that followed but on the days that I couldn’t respond anymore I realized I can’t handle this anymore… It was more of like, I can’t reciprocate.”
A smart girl indeed for not forcing anything, Jasmine said she really is focused on her career at the moment what with multiple projects for TV5. Besides her lead role on prime time as Audrey Tisueco on My Fair Lady, she is also a regular in the network’s mini-series Wattpad Presents, which features stories lifted from an online community of writers’ original works; and as host of Move It: Clash of the Streetdancers.
“I’m very happy where I am and what TV5 continues to entrust me, so there’s no truth to rumours I’m crossing over to any other station,” Jasmine set the record straight.
Besides a busy schedule for TV, the Filipino-Australian beauty continues to thrive as one of showbiz’ sought after endorsers, and has just been chosen as the face of Smart Communication’s most generous promotion to date.
Dubbed the “Share the Joy Gadget Giveaway” campaign, Smart Prepaid, Smart Postpaid, and Smart Bro subscribers can receive a new premium gadget for free everyday.
Jasmine already brought Christmas around town as she surprised everyday folk in public places with smartphones and tablets as the face of the exciting promotion.
“I’ve heard several stories of unfulfilled passions and that drives me to continuously help in campaigns that inspire and empower people,” said the long time brand ambassador of the giant telco. “This is why I feel honored to be the face of this new promo, which allows more Filipinos to live the ‘Smart Life’.”
According to Jeri Martinez of Smart Communications’ Brand Equity Team, the promo is testament to Smart’s consistent dedication to provide every Filipino Internet access, whose first step is having the gadget for the technology.
“It’s a chicken and egg situation for a large number of Filipinos,” Martinez explained. “They may have free Internet access in their places of work or other public places, but their cell phones may not wifi-enabled.”
For Jasmine, to be part of such a generous campaign is a win-win situation for her.
“I’m super grateful to be chosen for such a meaningful promotion because I’ve been with Smart since I started in showbiz. I was even playing toys at my first photo shoot! So it’s great because as I’m growing in this industry, they’re growing and evolving with me, and I’m so lucky they continue to give me opportunity for exposure by interacting with the public,” she ended.
