JBC asked to junk nomination of PRC commissioner

THE Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) was requested to junk the nomination of Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) Commissioner Jennifer Manalili as candidate for the position of Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas due to graft and corruption raps filed against her. In a five-page Complaint Affidavit/Formal Opposition filed to the JBC on July 30, 2014, architect Enrico Melchor Sevilla said Manalili is not fit for the Ombudsman post because she has pending criminal charges before the same agency. The document also cited the Internal Rules of the JBC stating the “Judicial and Bar Council rules specifically disqualifies applicants with pending cases to be disqualified from being considered and appointed to any position that requires the prior screening by the Judicial and Bar Council”.
