Two young actors get caught exchanging racy pictures
For more than a month, there was much speculation that Jennylyn Mercado was doing the big switch from GMA to another network. Her contract expired on May 15, and there had been no news about her renewing ties with the Kapuso network. Added to the intriguing situation is Jennylyn’s upcoming movie project with ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, which is why it was but natural for everyone to presume she was bound to shift loyalty.
Jennylyn began the week, however, with a visit to the GMA boardroom along with her manager, where network officials headed by Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon were all present too. And within 10 minutes, Jennylyn and the big bosses had sealed the actress’ new contract with the station, at the very place where her career began and blossomed.
Jennylyn said after the contract signing that she actually never entertained the thought of leaving GMA.
“I can’t see myself anywhere else but in GMA because this is home for me. It was here where I grew up as a performer,” she declared.
The Entertainment press had given Jennylyn the “Rom-Com Queen” title because of her box office success at the genre, which has since given her three Best Actress trophies.
As Jennylyn signed her new contract, her home network also gave her another title—she is now the “Kapuso Ultimate Star!”
“Yun namang mga tawag na ganyan, it’s just a title. But I’m still thankful because they gave me a title. I am humbled and challenged to show them that I deserve the title.”
Now that Jennylyn has signed the contract, she and her management team will sit down with the GMA’s creative team for the projects she is slated to start. There are no definite shows yet but somebody in the know intimated to Showbuzz that Jennylyn will start a new soap and will also take the reins of a reality show.
“Lahat naman ng ino-offer nila sa akin na project, tinatanggap ko because I believe that they know what will be good for me and my career. Besides, they know my capabilities as a performer so I trust them in everything with regards to my projects,” Jennylyn said.
After her last movie with John Lloyd Cruz—the box office success Just the Three of Us from Star Cinema— Jennylyn chose to take it easy with her commitments. She took the opportunity to travel and went Maldives as a birthday treat to herself in May. She also spent some days just relaxing in beaches around the country.
She owed the vacations to herself because she had been working so hard. She knew she deserved to just enjoy herself.
“Ang tagal ko ring nagpahinga. I rested after my movie was shown. I was out of work for more than a month. I needed to regain my energy, bumawi lang sa maraming gabing wala akong tulog. Now that I have rested and I’m recharged, I’m ready to buckle down to work again. Game!”
The sadness in Sunshine Dizon’s was still evident even as her fans surprised her on her 33rd birthday. Although she expressed how thankful she was that her supporters took time to organize the party, everyone knew she is still dealing with the huge blow to her marriage.
“I just pray and wish that, you know, makuha namin ‘yung justice na we all deserve,” Sunshine said.
For now, Sunshine says gets her strength from God, her two children, her mom, as well as her friends and fans who have been giving their all-out support at this difficult time.
Besides her inner circle, there is also a specific group that makes Sunshine tougher in facing what she considers as the most difficult challenge in her married life.
“What really keeps me going and pushes me to really finish this fight are the women who share their stories in my social media account. Some of them contact me through private message in Instagram and tell me how hard it is for them to go through the experiences I’m having right now. They tell me how much I inspire them to fight too,” the actress related.
“I realized there are a lot of women who suffer quietly, which should not be the case. Others say they want to fight for their right but they don’t have the means to do it. I advised them to go the Women’s Help Desk of the CIDG and ask what they can do for them. There are laws that protect women like us and it should be used to our advantage.”
With all the stories she read, many have turned out to be heartbreaking. She learned about women who were abandoned by their husbands and is now thinking of ways to help them. In fact, she has considered building a community for abandoned wives or form a support group for them.
“What I am going through right now is so painful but at the end of the day, some people tell me, it might be God’s way of telling me to be the voice and the face of these many suffering wives.”
Despite the hardship and the pain, Sunshine remains strong. She has to, she said, for her two children.
She continues to work even as she raises her children now as a single parent, and on top of endless meetings with her lawyers regarding the case she has filed against their father.
Sunshine is taping right now for GMA’s gigantic telefantasya Encantadia, and sees it that she doesn’t bring her problems to the set.
“I will not allow them to ruin me and my work. I’m very blessed and thankful that GMA is behind me all the way. I have work, magaganda ang projects ko. Maraming tao ang naghihintay rin sa paglabas ng Encantadia. I’m so blessed with this big project so I will not let my producers down. Pag trabaho, trabaho talaga.”
Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera’s baby Zia made her first public appearance via the launch of Johnson’s Mild and Oats, which the mother and daughter now endorse. As Marian, stepped on stage with her, photographers and cameramen swooped in to take pictures and videos of the celebrity baby. Zia, meanwhile seemed to enjoy all the attention that she was getting, and looked so amazed whe they are showered with confetti.
“Actually, Zia is the type of baby na hindi talaga iyakin. Whenever she sees new things, kikilatisin muna. She is very observant,” said Marian.
The actress was a little disappointed her husband could not be at the event because his flight from London was delayed.
“Sayang kasi bumili pa naman si Dong ng yellow dress for Zia for this event. Nakakatawa nga kasi puro Facetime ang ginagawa namin ngayon. He would always ask, ‘Where is Zia? Show her my picture, baka makalimutan ako ng anak ko’.”
There are new projects GMA has lined up for Marian, including a new soap but the network’s Primetime Queen is hesitant to accept any kind of work that will take her away from baby Zia for a long time.
“Zia is growing fast and I would like to be there with her at this stage. Hindi ko kayang iwan eh. I tried it when I taped for Encantadia—I would leave the house while she’s still sleeping and when I get home, she is already asleep as well. Ang sakit para sa akin. Sabi ko, palakihin ko muna anak ko and then after that, I can work again,” she said.
