Philippine Air Force used its experience and clipped Team Baguio with its power game, fashioning out a trouble-free 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 victory to notch its second straight win in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.
The Jet Spikers pounced on their rivals’ sloppy net defense and reception while using their vaunted combination plays and running attacks to ram in the hits in bunches en route to scoring a follow-up to their 25-23, 14-25, 25-19, 25-15 win over the undermanned BaliPure side last Monday.
Despite their fine start, Air Force Jasper Jimenez still stressed the need for his wards to improve on their service and reception as they step up their drive to the semifinal round of the season-opening conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s.
“We still have to improve in our remaining games in the elims, especially in the service and receive to get our offensive game going,” said Jimenez.
Joy Cases probed the unguarded spots while airborne and rammed in 12 stinging kills as the veteran campaigner spearheaded the Jet Spikers’ 64-minute romp over their Baguio rivals in a match aired live over ABS-CBN Sports + Action Channel 23.
“We all have to stay in top condition to contend in this conference,” said Cases, who also came through with nine digs.
Judy Ann Caballero, a former UST star, added seven kills and wound upw tih eight points while Jocemer Tapic and Iari Yong each fired seven hits and May Ann Pantino and Angel Antipuesto chipped in six points apiece for the Jet Spikers, who finished with 42 spikes, 13 more than the Summer Spikers.
Air Force also dominated the net, coming through with seven blocks against their rivals’ one and taking advantage of Baguio’s weak reception to score eight aces.
Mary Ann Atuban turned in a eight-point effort while skipper Ai Tsuchiya, Carmela Dicksen and Nicole Guyguyon combined for 16 markers for Team Baguio, which dropped to 0-2 in the early going of the league backed by Mikasa and Accel and organized by Sports Vision.
