NEW YORK: New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall was cleared on Friday (Saturday in Manila) by a jury that found the woman suing him in civil court failed to prove he punched her in a nightclub brawl.
Christina Myles of Chino, California, brought the suit in Manhattan federal court alleging she was struck by Marshall outside a New York club in March of 2012.
She was seeking at least $75,000 in damages.
Marshall, who was never criminally charged, told the jury Thursday that he feared for his life while fleeing the club after fights broke out.
Marshall said he did not hit Myles.
Marshall testified he saw men chasing him and his longtime friend, former NFL receiver Mike Sims-Walker, outside the Marquee nightclub and thought “no way we’ll survive this. If you fall, you’re dead. I was pretty hysterical.”
The jury sided with Marshall, who was found not liable for any injuries Myles may have suffered.
