As part of JGC Philippines’ 24th year anniversary celebration events and in conjunction with the Haribon Foundation’s Rainforest Organizations and Advocates to 2020 project which aims to restore the Philippine hectares of Philippine rainforests using native tree species by year 2020, JGC Philippines management led by President, Shigeru Hanajima, together with Katsumi Ishida and Eduardo Garcia of Project Operations Division; Akihito Kurata and Lolita Faller of the Administration Division; Ma. Cristina Ragil of the Engineering Division and around 100 employees participated in a series of environmental awareness activities.
The project commenced last August with Haribon’s Environmental Conservation Awareness talk at the JGC Philippines office and culminated with a tree-planting activity at the University of the Philippines Land Grant (UPLG) site in Siniloan, Laguna.
During the tree-planting activity at the UPLG site, a turn-over ceremony of native tree seedlings was participated in by JGC employees led by Hanajima, along with management and employees. Afterwards, the participants went on a one-hour trek to the tree-planting site where proper way of planting the seedlings was demonstrated by UPLG Farm Superintendent 3, Reynaldo Lorida to ensure that these “small trees” will thrive after planting. Each participant was required to plant at least 10 seedlings which resulted in planting a total of 1,000 seedlings over the one hectare planting site.
To also ensure that the trek to and from the tree-planting site will be remembered with fun and excitement, the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) Committee led by Mabz Briones of the HR Department spearheaded fun-filled activities that fostered camaraderie, team work, and increased environmental awareness among the participants.
After successfully completing a whole-day event, it is apparent that JGC Philippines Inc. remains steadfast in promoting CSR efforts in the country and stays on the right track with this recent partnership with the Haribon Foundation in responding to the call for corporations to be deeply involved in uplifting the Philippine society through initiatives such as tree-planting event.
To JGC Philippines Inc. congratulations for helping ensure a greener Philippines for our generations to come.
