The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has granted the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) P500 million to streamline its operations, Ernesto Delco, MCWD assistant general manager for operations, said. The grant will be used to put up a new system called the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) that can detect low-pressure areas real time. Delco said MCWD’s counterpart in the project is a P50-million payment of value-added tax. He said that through SCADA, MCWD can switch on and switch off its distribution lines, pumping stations or valves remotely. He said that at present, they have to turn off distribution lines manually if there are leaks. Immediate detection with the help of the system would enable MCWD to take immediately action to solve a problem, Delco added.
