FORMER sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada is asking permission from the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division to travel to Hong Kong from December 26 to 31.
“Accused-movant requests permission of the Court to be allowed to travel to Hong Kong with his family…for purpose of a long desired family bonding and holiday trip to Hong Kong from December 26 to 31, 2017,” the defense said in a motion filed on December 5.
Estrada, who is out on bail, is facing a P183-million plunder case and 11 counts of graft before the court, along with other individuals in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel scam.
The court issued hold departure orders in 2014, which barred the accused from leaving the country without its prior permission.
“After accused-movant was allowed bail, the family have been longing for bonding outside of the country. The Christmas holidays would be the most opportune time to have this,” Estrada said in part in his motion.
Estrada was released from detention in September after the Sandiganbayan’s Special Fifth Division, voting 3-2, allowed him to post bail over the plunder case filed against him and several others. MA. REINA LEANNE C. TOLENTINO
