The Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division has allowed Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada to attend the high school graduation of his youngest son, Julian Emilio, today.
The court granted Estrada’s request for a three-hour furlough. He will be at the O.B. Montessori in Greenhills, San Juan City (Metro Manila) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“We are not doing this because of Sen. Estrada. We are doing this because of the child. If Sen. Estrada will not be around, that will be traumatic to the child,” Associate Justice Roland Jurado, who heads the 5th Division, pointed out.
Estrada is detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame in Quezon City in connection with his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam that saw a plunder charge being filed against him before the anti-graft court.
The senator thanked the anti-graft court for its decision.
“This is a big deal for my son who, of course, wants to see his parents present in his graduation, and this only happens once in a lifetime,” he told reporters after the hearing of his petition for the furlough.
