DETAINED Senators Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., on Tuesday remain hopeful the High Court will also grant them bail like Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile.
“We are praying and hoping, that we can follow the footsteps of JPE (Enrile) and be allowed to work in the Senate again,” Estrada said.
According to the senator, the Supreme Court allowed Enrile to post bail because of three mitigating circumstances like his old age, not being a flight risk, and his decision to voluntarily surrender before the court.
“We can be entitled for bail because we surrendered voluntarily and we are not considered as flight risks being incumbent senators of our country,” Estrada explained.
Estrada said Enrile, visited them a day after he was released and they talked about several things. “He advised us not to lose hope and be strong and have faith,” He said.
Estrada and Revilla had been in detention since last year for plunder and other graft-related charges before the Sandiganbayan in connection to their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
But even in detention, the two senators still managed to perform their duties as lawmakers like filing of proposed resolutions and bills and signing committee reports.
