Republic Cement & Building Materials Inc. has signed a deal with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on providing overseas Filipino workers (OFW) with employment opportunities.
In a statement Wednesday, Republic Cement said the memorandum of agreement (MOA) directs the company to post job openings on DOLE’s PhilJobNet, the government’s employment portal, particularly aimed at returning OFWs.
The cement maker initially posted 86 job openings – 26 technical positions and 60 office-based employment – on PhilJobNet.
“Republic Cement supports the national government’s efforts to address the various issues facing the country’s labor sector, particularly job and skills mismatch. The company will be working with the DOLE to develop employment and skills matching for eligible OFWs,” company president Renato Sunico said.
“With this initiative, we hope to provide access to employment opportunities for our returning OFWs within the Republic Cement organization,” Sunico added.
DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz has said that the construction industry is one of the country’s top employment-generating sectors.
Despite the job opportunities, Baldoz noted that job seekers may not necessarily have the required skills and qualifications.
PhilJobNet features a mobile app for optimal viewing and seamless interactivity, while allowing linkages to users’ social media accounts.
