Just before her perfume launch for Avon, The Manila Times also caught Jodi Sta. Maria at ABS-CBN’s thanksgiving gathering for primetime series Pangako Sa ‘Yo where she portrays the iconic role of Amor Powers. Pangako Sa ‘Yo (PSY) is a remake of the 2000 soap opera of the same title, where Eula Valdez first breathed life to the once guileless country lass whose life of cruelty turns her into a strong, vengeful woman.
As the successful 2015 outing of PSY ends this tonight, Jodi said she is filled with “mixed emotions.”
Describing Amor Powers as the most challenging role she has ever tackled in her 14 years in show business, the 33-year old actress related, “I’m very excited to for people to see the show’s ending but at the same time, I would say na nalulungkot ako.
“Napakagandang experience ng Pangako Sa ‘Yo para sa akin. Hanggang sa huli, naniniwala ako na talagang hindi mawawala yung pagiging challenging ng character ni Amor Powers. Napakarami niya kasing layers at ang haba ng tinahak niya na napakamakulay.
“Siguro pagdating sa karera ko, I’ll say na may nagawa ako, sa tulong ng aking mga director at ng mga co-actors and scriptwriters, na napagtagumpayan naman.”
She also expressed gratitude to her leading man Ian Veneracion, with whom she achieved such an effective screen chemistry that catapulted them into the “love team” popularity of PSY’s young leads Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
Since premiering in late May Pangako Sa ‘Yo has gripped viewers nationwide, pushing the program to record a new all-time high national TV rating of 42.7-percent on February 9, a solid 25-point lead over its competition, which registered 17-percent, according to data from Kantar Media.
Tonight’s episode will reveal a new take on the classic Filipino love story, as the question for a happy ever after between Yna (Kathryn) and Angelo (Daniel) is finally answered.
