He knows more than just crafting laws for the Filipino people; he can also take them on an exciting backpacker’s journey around this beautiful country.

Rep. Albee Benitez, known as “the pride of Negros Occidental” and chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development leads a trio of travel enthusiasts every Saturday morning on TV’s latest tourism production Kool Trip, Backpackers Edition.

Aired over ABS-CBN Sports and Action channel (formerly Studio 23), the show is produced by Kool Trip Productions in cooperation with AMT Recreation Hauz and Marketing Services.

The 30-minute show primarily showcases must-see destinations around these 7,100 islands and proves that it is indeed more fun in the Philippines. Moreover, Kool Trip aims to unveil the rich and historical heritage of every place of interest—from discovering its people and their way of life, authentic dishes and native delicacies, as well as significant facts about the area as delivered by Benitez.

Joining the young representative in his latest endeavor are co-hosts Marjorie Cornillez, a model and entrepreneur who loves to get acquainted with folks from all walks of life and is willing to try anything for the sake of adventure and discovery; and Star Magic comedian Jayson Gainza, who brings comic relief especially on difficult treks.

Now on its first season, Kool Trip has featured places like Albay in Bicol, Caliraya and Cavinti in Laguna, Fort Ilocandia in Ilocos Norte, Pagudpod in Ilocos Sur, Baler in Quezon and Sagada.

In the next episode on February 28, Kool Trip explores Coron in Palawan with guest director Albert Martinez to be shown. Next in line are Oriental Mindoro, Cagayan Valley, Mindanao and the Visayas region, where the representative’s province has been saved for a grand finale.

What makes the show different from other travel programs according to Benitez are two specific features.

“The first is the political dimension we add to show by means of interviewing the town or province’s officials, and secondly, since we are ‘backpackers’ here, we will also share with our viewers tips on how to be wise and travel on a budget,” the congressman explained.

Directed by Arnel Caibal, Kool Trip Backpackers airs every Saturday, 6:30 to 7 a.m. on the ABS-CBN Sports and Action channel.
