AMMAN: Jordan confirms on Monday a new case of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus infection that has been spreading throughout the region, the state- run Petra news agency said.

The country's health ministry said a person tested positive for the deadly virus but declined giving more information. Eight MERS cases have been detected in Jordan since 2012, three of those died.
