• Jose Rizal Bombers eye 6th win in NCAA

HOST Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers will try to stay in the No. 3 position when they tangle with cellar dweller Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals today in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament elimination round at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City.

The Heavy Bombers are currently bearing 5-3 win-loss slate to tie with University of Perpetual Help Altas at the third spot behind solo leader San Beda College Red Lions (7-1) and second front running Arellano University Chiefs (7-2).

A win by the Heavy Bombers will enable them to notch solo third which will relegate the Altas to fourth spot at the end of the first round elimination.

Coach Vergel Meneses expressed confidence his ward can overcome the challenge of the Cardinals in their 4 p.m. encounter while San Sebastian College Stags with a 3-5 card aim to complete their first round elimination assignments with a big win over Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 2 p.m.

Meneses warned his wards of complacency reminding his players that Mapua is a hungry team which is looking for a follow-up victory after beating San Sebastian Stags, 89-81, last July 28. The Cardinals are languishing at the bottom with a 1-7 record.

San Sebastian Stags are seeking for their fourth win in nine matches while the EAC Generals want to improve their 2-6 record going into the second round of the eliminations.
