Jose Rizal, Perpetual Help part ways today in NCAA

JOSE Rizal University and University of Perpetual Help stake their unbeaten slate when they face each other today in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Both the Heavy Bombers and the Altas are sporting identical 1-0 card when they collide at 6 p.m. San Sebastian College is seeking for second straight win as it takes on winless Mapua Institute of Technology 4 p.m.

Perpetual leaned on two-year veteran Earl Thompson and Nigerian Nosa Omorogbe’s combined 28 points to crush Emilio Aguinaldo College, 69-49, last Thursday for an auspicious start in their quest to improve their semifinal finish last year.

Thompson and Omorogbe also combined for 10 rebounds in the game, which coach Aric del Rosario said his potent weapon against the Bombers.

The Jose Rizal Bombers, on the other hand, trounced the Mapua Cardinals, 83-72, on Monday to join the Perpetual Altas at second spot behind Colegio de San Juan de Letran, which is pacing the tourney with a clean 2-0 record.

San Sebastian lost its opening game to Letran, 69-74 on June 22 but bounced back with a pulsating victory over the Arellano Chiefs, 78-76, on Thursday.

In the juniors division, the San Sebastian Staglets aim for their second win and a share of the top spot as they face Mapua Red Robins at 12 noon while the Perpetual Help Altalettes and the Jose Rizal Light Bombers, who are carrying similar 1-0 card, part ways at 2 p.m.
