He counts John Lloyd Cruz and Leonardo Di Caprio as his screen idols, but 19-year-old Joshua Garcia—an up and coming actor and singer—is a dead ringer for current heartthrob Alden Richards.
An alumnus of Pinoy Big Brother, Garcia admitted to The Manila Times during his launch as brand ambassador of Filipino RTW brand BNY Jeans, that he is always mistaken for the “Pambansang Bae” whenever he goes on live performances.
Asked how he feels about it, the five-seven looker honestly replied, “OK naman po pero siyempre gusto ko rin makilala for who I am. Sa isang banda, at least, napapansin ako sa mga mall shows kahit akala muna nila si Alden ako; tapos n’un, napapakilala ko naman sa kanila na ako si Joshua Garcia.”
Besides his facial features, Garcia also seems to exude the “simpatico ways” of Richards, who has become a hit across all generations of women. Very polite, he revealed he was raised by his uncle, who is a priest, when his parents separated at a very early age.
“Kaya po siguro sabi nila mabait ako,” Garcia humbly added.
He decided to audition for the Philippine franchise of reality show Big Brother when his father lost his job and he needed money to continue schooling.
“Tapos nagustuhan ko na po dito sa showbiz, at sana po magtuloy-tuloy na,” he related.
Besides holding mall tours for his current endorsement, Garcia said he will be starting a support role in a teleserye very soon, whose details have yet to be announced by the network.
