With the Philippines hosting the Miss Universe Pageant for the third time in January 2017, a reality-documentary show, Journey To The Crown, premiered on November 6, featuring the Filipinos’ passion for beauty pageants.
The show will continue to air every Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on cable channel ETC, until the pageant’s culmination on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Miss Universe has long been known as the holy grail of all beauty pageants. As such, the annual contest is deeply embedded in the Filipino culture as a much-anticipated event and a source of inspiration for Filipinas who dream of bringing pride to the country.
Considered a beauty powerhouse especially in Asia, the Philippines has produced three Miss Universe titleholders thus far: Gloria Diaz in 1969, Margarita Mora in 1973, and the reigning queen, Pia Wurtzbach. Many Filipina runners-up have also shone in the pageant in the last four decades.
Journey To The Crown is hosted by 2010 Miss Universe 4th Runner-Up Maria Venus Raj and 2011 Miss Universe 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup.
