JP Voltes, Green Archers collide in UFL

JP Voltes FC and Green Archers United FC will be disputing the fifth spot in the United Football League (UFL) today at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.

The two middle-of-the-pack clubs will collide at 1:45 p.m.

Both teams have a record of four wins, a draw and two losses.

The Japanese-flavored Voltes registered an impressive 5-0 demolition of Agila MSA FC through the efforts of Takashi Odawara and Takumi Uesato in their previous match.

Former Japanese League second division standout Uesato and Odawara each scored two goals while playing coach Yu Hoshide capped off the affair with a goal of his own in the dying minutes.

Besides Japanese players, Voltes will rely on strong roster of local booters namely Jayson Cutamora, John Celiz and the tough defensive duo of PJ Fadrigalan and Alexandro Elnar.

The Green Archers, on the other hand, escaped the second half surge of the streaking Manila Nomads SC, 4-3, and gained ground with their second straight victory.

Despite being down by two goals, 3-1, the resilient Green Archers came alive in the final stretch to deny an upset from the Nomads.

Nico Macapal opened the scoring for the Green Archers while Hossein Dousdarsefidmazgi, Alvin Sarmiento and William Ebanda also had their hand in the victory.

The Green Archers will be looking on the young tandem of Macapal and Jesus Joaquin Melliza with veteran Floriano Pasilan Jr. as they try to record a win over a formidable opponent.

However, the Green and White platoon will be missing the services of former national football team star Chieffy Caligdong, who was slapped with a red card during their meeting with the Nomads.

In the other match, fourth seed Kaya FC will be on the run to extend its win streak to three games as its battles Agila MSA FC at 4 p.m.
