For the Catholic Church, Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile is not giving a good example to the Filipino people based on the revelations of his wife Cristina about his 38 secret affairs.
Fr. Conegundo Garganta, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said Filipino Catholics, whatever their social status, should remain faithful to their marriage vows.
“It is not a good example to the youth when highly placed persons misbehave,” Garganta said. “ We expect persons in power to uphold the sanctity of marriage.”
He further said that a responsible husband should fulfill what he promised to his wife when they got married.
Garganta clarified that he had no intention of criticizing Enrile, but said that a married person should responsibly handle his relationship with his partner “to achieve a stable wedded life.”
“They should take care of their partnership and be models of loving faithfulness,” he disclosed.
