Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile and his former aide Jessica “Gigi” Reyes will attend the pre-trial of the P172-million plunder complaint filed against them in connection with the pork barrel scam because the Sandiganbayan has issued orders that they be presented in court.
Enrile, 91, is under hospital arrest at the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital in Camp Crame, Quezon City while Reyes is detained at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig.
According to Sandiganbayan Third Division Clerk of Court Dennis Pulma, the anti-graft court ordered the Director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the administrator of the PNP hospital and Reyes’ jail custodian Senior Inspector Jundelina Jagunap to produce the two in court.
Businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, their co-accused, will also be in court tomorrow. On Thursday, Ruby Tuason, Enrile’s alleged middleman, began testifying in Napoles’ bail petition after former JLN Corporation finance officer Benhur Luy closed his testimony the day before.
She said that in 2004, her husband introduced Carlos “Butch” Tuason Napoles to her “as a rich lady who might be interested to buy my (Ruby Tuason’s) house.”
“I was the one who got the money from her and delivered it to Sen. Enrile and Sen. [Jinggoy] Estrada,” Tuason said.
She said Napoles invited her to her office not long after their first meeting and offered her a commission “if I could introduce her to my politician friends and Sen. Estrada.”
She told the court that she received the kickbacks in the form of cash either in her house, at the JLN Corp. office, or in Napoles’ condominium at the Pacific Plaza.
Tuason said commissions for Enrile were coursed through Reyes.
