JOSE Rizal University Heavy Bombers, Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals and Arellano University Chiefs, three teams locked in the middle of the standings, will have to part ways today in the resumption of the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City.
The Heavy Bombers, who last won a crown in 1972, face tail-enders and host College of Saint Benilde Blazers at 4 p.m. while the Cardinals meet the Chiefs at 6 p.m.
The Jose Rizal Bombers, Arellano Chiefs and Mapua Red Robins all hold a similar 1-2 win-loss slate.
In the juniors division, the Light Bombers collide against Saint Benilde-LSGH Greenies at 12 p.m. while the Mapua Red Robins take on the Arellano Braves at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, San Beda guard Amer Baser bagged the ACCEL/3XVI-NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week honor after leading the Red Lions to a back-to-back victory in the ongoing seniors basketball tournament.
After absorbing their first setback at the hands of Lyceum Pirates, the four-peat seeking Red Lions bounced back with convincing wins, the first was over Arellano Chiefs (67-54) on July 4, then against Emilio Aguinaldo Generals (80-65) on July 8.
“It’s another blessing for us. Both Arellano and EAC are fighting teams and we cannot take them for granted,” said Davao native Baser.
