FORMER Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Philip Ella Juico and sports development expert Aparicio Mequi will join current PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez in a top-level consultative meeting for sports on Thursday at the Century Park Hotel.
The three will pool their expertise in drafting the Master Plan for Philippine Sports and the planned Philippine Sports Institute. Juico is also the incumbent president of the Philippine Track and Field Association (PATAFA).
More than a hundred sports personalities, partners and stakeholders are expected to attend the affair.
Ramirez said that it’s about time the Philippines establish a Sports Institute, which he said is crucial in improving the country’s performance in international competitions among them the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and the Olympics.
The proposed PSI will be tasked to bring to the Filipino athletes the benefits of modern sports medicine, sports psychology, sports nutrition, sports physiology and sports education.
Ramirez said that the Master Plan for Philippine Sports would be presented to President Rodrigo Duterte upon completion.
“What we really want now is to have a clear direction for Philippine sports particularly in the aspects of grassroots development. Through the PSI, I’m sure our Pres. Duterte can leave a strong legacy in sports when he leave office six years from now,” said Ramirez.
