Ace junior netter Alberto Lim Jr. will be seeing action in the 2013 Thamrin Cup International Junior Championships beginning on June 11 at the Kemayoran Tennis Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The 14-year-old Lim is looking to earn his fifth title this year and additional ranking points for his current position of 281st in the International Tennis Association standings.
“There are lots of good players that have already confirmed attendance in the tournament but I am ready and physically fit right now,” he said.
Lim is coming off a silver-medal finish in the doubles event of the recently concluded 2013 Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) Philippine National Games. He connived with Ruel Licayan.
“Our aim right now is to make it to the Top 100 to possibly earn an automatic slot to the main draw of a Grand Slam event [Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon Championships and US Open],” added Lim.
Among the top players competing in Indonesia are Yang Shao-Chi of Taiwan, Congsup Congcar of Thailand, Nuradim Ramdani of Indonesia, Ahmed Deedat Abdul Razak of Malaysia, Hei Yin Andrew Li of Hong Kong, Nasel Al Obaidly of Kuwait,Gil de Keyser of Belgium, Kyojei Yamanaka of Japan, Chan Hwi Shin of South Korea and Sai Nikhil Mannepalli of India.
Last year, Lim failed to advance to the Thamrin Cup main draw after losing to Japanese Yuki Takamura, 4-6, 2-6, in the second round of the qualifying stage.
