• Junior Pinoy jins win 24 gold in Culture Expo meet

    Junior Filipino jins copped 24 golds, 16 silvers and 19 bronzes in the prestigious 10th World Tae kwon do Culture Expo Championships held at the Jeonju City Jeollabuk in Mugun-gun, South Korea.

    The team bagged 13 golds in sparring and 11 golds in poomsae with Capiz jins leading the medal contributor with eight mints (four each in sparring and poomsae), two silvers and six bronzes in the tournament participated by more than 2,000 athletes from 36 countries.

    Winning two gold medals (one in sparring and one in poomsae) were Capiz bets Sean Falsis, Mikee Rose Regala and Allyah Dominique Eusalan; Olongapo jins Dominic Navarro and Marc Jullian Navat; and National Capital Region representative Joaquin Antonio Marte.

    Also winning gold medals were Lance Oliver Ortillo (gold in poomsae and bronze in sparring), Godwin Jacob Calupitan (gold in sparring and bronze in poomsae), Cesar Oliver Basilio (gold in poomsae and bronze in sparring), Algenne Marhee Amiruddin (gold in sparring and silver in poomsae), Zoi Buslig (gold in sparring and silver in poomsae), Dylan Reyes (gold in sparring and silver in poomsae), Micah Angelica Torres (gold in poomsae and silver in sparring), Xenicah Manangbao (gold in sparring and bronze in poomsae), Liezel Haboy (gold in poomsae and silver in sparring), Ma. Katerina Mercurio (gold in sparring and bronze in poomsae), Zachary Aguirre (gold in poomsae and bronze in sparring) and Japeth Romi Anga-Angan (gold in sparring and silver in poomsae).

    The other medalists were Margarita Ebora (bronze in poomsae), Luke Ebora (silver in poomsae, bronze in sparring), Ahren Hendrick Balbuena (silver in sparring, bronze in poomsae), Jesella Fermo (silver in poomsae, bronze in sparring), Rey Emmanuel Azcarraga (silver in sparring, bronze in poomsae), Jeffrey Jay De Jose (silver in poomsae, bronze in sparring), Siamelle Grace Manalad (two bronzes), Don Mustapha Faraown Loong 2nd (silver in poomsae, bronze in sparring), Mary Lleanne-Amiruddin (two silvers), Saeed Faris Faraown Loong (silver in poomsae, bronze in sparring), Charles Lorenzo Jacob (two bronzes), Charmaine Gay Calatong (bronze in poomsae) and Pablo Calatong Jr. (silver in sparring).

    “Players did a very good job and made the country proud. It’s a good experience for our young jins. It’s not just winning medal but it’s about transforming these young athletes to become better citizens of the world through taekwondo. The parents and coaches’ support was also a very important factor,” said delegation head Ricardo Santiago Jr.

    The team was organized by the Philippine Tae kwon do Association under its CEO Sung Chon Hong.
