OPPOSITION Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito on Monday virtually cleared Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd of any involvement in a smear campaign against Vice President Jejomar Binay and instead tagged the ruling Liberal Party (LP) and Nacionalista Party (NP) as those behind the operations to discredit him.
Ejercito explained that the LP and NP would benefit once they succeeded in easing Binay out of the presidential race in 2016.
He also expressed doubt on the role of Roxas in the alleged demolition campaign against Binay, noting that the former would not likely engage in dirty politics.
“I know him [Roxas]. I don’t think he will adhere to this kind of dirty politics. I have respect for Secretary Mar, I don’t think he is capable [of playing dirty],” the opposition senator said.
“There is an old saying that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and we are seeing this happening. They [NP and LP] have a common denominator and that is they both want to eliminate the leading presidential candidate,” Ejercito added.
He was reacting to Binay’s statement that Roxas was the mastermind behind “Oplan Stop Nognog 2016,” a campaign allegedly hatched in a bid to stop the Vice President from clinching the presidency in 2016.
Ejercito also questioned the real intent of the Senate blue ribbon sub-committee’s ongoing inquiry into alleged anomalies in construction of Makati City Hall Building 2, noting that” it is hard to deny that it has already evolved into a full-fledged demolition job against the Vice President.”
