United Football League (UFL) club Kaya FC will be signing nine new players to strengthen its chances in the upcoming 2016 season.
After a successful 2015, which was capped off with a trophy in the recently concluded UFL Cup, Kaya is now gearing up for the new season of the county’s top football league and in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup next year.
Headlining the recruits of the 2015 UFL champions is returning midfielder Anton Ugarte, who first joined the club in 2012 before leaving for Thailand in 2013.
Ugarte, a familiar name for the fans of the club, has spent the past two years playing in Thailand before deciding to return to the UFL first division squad for the 2016 season.
Five other Filipinos, including upcoming stars Charlie Beaton and Shirmar Felongco together with Vito Tanton, Sean Kane and Julian Matthews, were unveiled to be part of the new face of Kaya.
Under-23 national football team standouts Beaton and Felongco are both UFL veterans despite their young age having played for the Loyola Meralco Sparks FC and Stallion FC, respectively, in the previous seasons.
Additionally, three new foreign booters were added to Kaya’s roster, spearheaded by the former Green Archers United FC high scoring striker Robert Lopez-Mendy.
Two new faces were also revealed to be included in the team, as Australian goalkeeper Matthew Acton and Ghanaian booter Isaac Anaan are expected to join the squad for next season.
