CANBERRA: Australian scientists developed a technique over honey bees, swarm sensing, which means thousands of honey bees in Australia are being fitted with tiny sensors to monitor the insects and their environment, to improve honey bee pollination and productivity on farms, Australia’s national science agency CSIRO confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

According to this statement, the research aims to improve honeybee pollination and productivity on farms as well as help understand the drivers of bee Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), a condition decimating honey bee populations worldwide. And it’s the first time such large numbers of insects have been used for environmental monitoring.
