PHILIPPINE Kia distributor Columbian Autocar Corp. (CAC) said that the Kia Soul and Sportage have topped their segments in the J.D. Power and Associates’ 2013 Initial Quality Study (IQS) in the US.
The Soul led in the compact MPV segment for the second consecutive year while the Sportage ranked highest among subcompact CUVs, CAC said, adding that Kia has joined the automotive industry’s top 10 nameplates for initial quality for the first time.
“Kia Motors is committed to building vehicles that are defined by award-winning design, fun-to-drive performance and world-class quality,” said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and chief executive officer of Kia Motors America and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia. “The Soul and Sportage epitomize these attributes.”
Ahn added that “achieving top 10 status within the industry reflects just how far the Kia brand has come” in terms of ownership experience and vehicle quality.
According to CAC, Kia made gains that outpaced the US industry average and resulted in the brand’s best score. The annual report was taken from 83,442 respondents to about 230 vehicles and attributes across eight categories. The categories included driving experience, engine and transmission, and a broad range of quality-problem symptoms reported by vehicle owners.
