ZAMBOANGA CITY: Abductors have freed a 21-year-old man they kidnapped along with his grandfather in Zamboanga del Sur in March, military sources said on Thursday.
They said Ryan Tan was released to his waiting family here on Tuesday.
Police were unaware of Tan’s release and the military only learned about it a day after the man’s family confirmed this.
The fate of his 70-year old grandfather, Antonio, remains unknown.
The two were abducted from their house in Purok San Francisco, Barangay Maruing, Lapuyan town in Zamboanga del Sur on the evening of March 23.
No other details were made available by the military about the release of Tan and the identity of the suspects, but authorities had previously linked former members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and others allied with the Abu Sayyaf Group in numerous kidnappings in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
It was not known if Tan’s family had paid ransom for his safe release.
