• Kidnapped woman freed in Southern Philippines


    ZAMBOANGA CITY: Kidnappers have freed a woman on Thursday a day after she was taken by four gunmen in the island of Siasi off the southern Philippine province of Sulu. The victim, Guan Kim Maujon, was released on a beach in Parang town. Policemen were sent to fetch Maujon, but details of her freedom were not immediately available. Maujon’s family was believed to have paid ransom to the kidnappers, although it was unclear if the Abu Sayyaf was behind the kidnapping. She was kidnapped on Wednesday in Laminusa village by       armed men who dragged her to a waiting speedboat. Maujon was brought to hospital for a routine medical examination.
