• Kill switch a solution to smart phones theft

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) Cybercrime Office encouraged on Monday telecommunication companies to install “kill” switches in smartphones to reduce thefts of the devices. A kill switch is a mechanism used to shut down or disable machinery, device or program. Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said it is the responsibility of telcos as public utilities to prevent crimes and to ensure that technology is used to address peace and order issues. The DOJ cited a New York study which said mobile phones theft rate dropped to 40 percent in 2014 just introducing the kill switch feature.
