One died and two others were injured as violence marred the first day of campaign fort he upcoming village elections in Calasiao, Pangasinan, police reports said.
Reports at the Philippine National Police operations center in Camp Crame said that a village chairman was attacked by three motorcycle-riding gunmen at around 11:50 a.m. along Poblacion East, Calasiao of said province.
Reports said Chairman Majadiva Mesina of Barangay Longos, and three companion were in a white Toyota Grandia Hi-Ace van when they were fired upon by motorcycle riding gunmen.
Mesina and two of his companions were wounded while another one was killed during the attack, reports said.
The reports said Mesina and his wounded companions were brought to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Prior to the incident, police have recorded nine deaths and 14 wounded in violent incidents related to the grassroots polls set on October 28.
