• King proposes Congo as site for Stiverne-Povetkin

NEW YORK: Don King has suggested paying homage to Muhammad Ali by holding a World Boxing Council mandated heavyweight bout between Bermane Stiverne and Alexander Povetkin in The Democratic Republic of Congo or the Philippines. The legendary King, who promotes WBC No.2-ranked heavyweight Stiverne, issued a statement Thursday suggesting the Canadian will meet top-ranked Povetkin before the end of the year to decide the next challenger to currently injured world champion Deontay Wilder. Wilder suffered a broken hand and torn biceps muscle in his July knockout of Chris Arreola. The WBC has said that the negotiation window for Povetkin v Stiverne opened on August 17, and if no deal is made by September 16 a purse bid will be conducted.
