Classical music enthusiasts were treated to a night of world-class talent with the Klassikal Music Foundation’s (KMF) Songs From A Silver World: The Encore Performance. Recently held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Pasay City, the concert was a rerun of the successful showcase held early this year.
A co-production of KMF and the CCP, the concert once again showcased the singing prowess of the scholars as they sang classical renditions of music from thrillers, James Bond movies, Italian Cinema, Disney, and Oscar-winning songs, among others.
A major highlight, which made the second run different from the previous show, was the performance of Asia’s Got Talent (AGT) Golden Girl Gerphil Flores. Guests were especially delighted with her rendition of “The Impossible Dream,” the song known to have given her the nods of AGT judges and viewers last year.
Established by McDonald’s founder and chairman Dr. George T. Yang in 2007, Klassikal Music Foundation has supported close to 60 scholars to date. Regular fundraising concerts such as Songs From A Silver World are done, not only to showcase talent, but to also continuously help new scholars in need of training and financial support.
The premier classical music foundation in the country has also recently named Maestro Gerard Salonga as one of its board members, joining Dr. George T. Yang, Dr. Raul Sunico, Dr. Raul Navarro, Ms. Lily Monteverde, and Ms. Rachelle Gerodias.
“Having Gerard Salonga in the KMF family is an honor. His skill and knowledge is truly remarkable and we are very excited to begin working with him as we stay committed to supporting our young classical singers,” said Dr. Yang.
The show was directed by Andrew Fernando, with musical direction from Herminigildo Ranera, choreography from Richardson Yadao and Macel Dofitas, and light design from John Batalla.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the foundation to continuously support new scholars. Songs From A Silver World: The Encore Performance was co-presented by McDonald’s and GenOSI. Sponsors are Coca-Cola, Ecolab, Foster Foods, Franke Foodservice Systems, RFM-Interbake Commissary Corporation, Technolux, and DZFE 98.7 FM.
