The Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights trounced the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas, 79-71, on Thursday to remain the only unbeaten team in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Itomari Sollano finished with 14 points, six rebounds, three block shots and three steals to lead the Knights to its fifth straight win. The Altas, after the defeat, dropped to the second spot with the San Beda College Red Lions that are also carrying a 4-1 win-loss card. Mark Cruz finished with 15 points and five rebounds.
Perpetual Help coach Aric del Rosario blamed their 27 turnovers, which Letran exploited by converting at least 25 points out of it, as the reason for their defeat.
In the other game, Nigerian hotshot Ola Adeogun posted 25 points on top of 13 rebounds to lead the San Beda College Red Lions to a 73-67 win over the College of Saint Benilde Blazers.
“I was injured coming into the season but I’m starting to be in full strength,” said Adeogun, who injured his left hamstring during a PBA D-League game last summer. Arthur de la Cruz and Jeramer Cabanag contributed 10 and nine points respectively.
Jonathan Grey led the Blazers with 16 points; John Saavedra had 15 while John Domingo and Christian Fajarito contributed eight points apiece.
