Koko Pimentel gears up for legal fight with wife

SEN. Aquilino Pimentel 3rd has welcomed the plan of his estranged wife to sue him for alleged violation of Republic Act (RA) 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act, saying the she can file whatever she wants because this is a free country.

Pimentel at the same time said that he also has rights and that he is ready to defend himself against, what he considered, as baseless and harassment charges.

“Of course I can also file cases,” Pimentel said in text message sent to reporters.

Pimetel and Jewel Lobaton have been living separately since November 2011 after they decided to part ways because of differences.

Rumors about a supposed third party is said to be reason why the marriage of the Pimentel couple failed.

Former Rep. Anthony Golez of Bacolod City was reported to be Lobaton’s “special friend” but Pimentel maintained that a third party is not the reason behind the separation.

Golez already denied categorically having anything to do with the breakup and appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the former couple.

Pimentel on the other hand said that it would be better if the issue regarding his estrange wife will not be given so much attention because there are other far more important issues that needs attention.

“Let’s focus on how we could help the people affected by Typhoon Labuyo,” he added.
