Manny Pacquiao’s long time personal adviser Mike Koncz has predicted that the Filipino World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion would win by knockout when he faces unbeaten American Chris Algieri on November 23 at the Cotai Arena of Venetian Hotel in Macau.
“If he sustains that kind of training and keeps his mindset in the fight, I strongly predicted Manny [Pacquiao] could knockout Algieri,” Koncz told The Manila Times in a phone interview. “Manny has improved a lot overall and that’s a good news.”
Koncz attributed the vast improvement of Pacquiao’s hand speed, footwork and power to the efforts of assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez, which is also Pacman’s longtime friend, and conditioning coach Justine Fortune. Pacquiao’s head trainer Freddie Roach is set to arrive in General Santos on October 6.
“Justine [Fortune] is very happy to see Manny in a good fighting condition. He gets quicker and smarter each day. There’s no problem in his health,” added Koncz. “Knockout win for Manny is a huge possibility if he keeps training that way.”
Koncz and Fortune arrived in General Santos on Sunday.
Koncz also related that Pacquiao is not doing any basketball training.
“We’d never expected that he’s going to train seriously like this in boxing. We thought basketball is the other priority but he focuses more on boxing here in General Santos. Manny knows what he’s doing so far and I’m very happy to see it.”
Koncz said that it would be a real treat for boxing fans if Pacquiao (56-5-2 win-loss-draw with 38 knockouts) would knockout Algieri (20-0 win-loss with eight knockouts), “I love to see a Pacquiao knockout win and everybody likes to see it,” he concluded.
